Asylum Application Approved for Citizen of HungaryPublished: Oct 5, 2007 12:00 pm By: Matthew L. Kolken Source: My Source
Our client's application for asylum was just approved by Citizenship and Immigration Services. Our client fears that if she is forced to return to Hungary she would face life threatening danger because of her bi-racial marriage, and the possibility of having her bi-racial United States citizen child taken from her by the government because the child’s skin color is medium dark.
Our client's husband is a citizen of Nigeria. When he was attending University in Hungary in 1996 he was attacked by five skinheads because of the color of his skin. He was beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed during the attack.
It would also be impossible for our client to return with her husband to Nigeria because she would face the substantial likelihood of having to forcibly undergo the barbaric practice of Female Genital Mutilation as result of her marriage to a member of the Iqbo tribe. Although her husband does not want her to undergo this practice, he would be powerless to prevent his tribe members from butchering his wife.
Is essence our client was a woman without a country. Thankfully, our client and her family may now live safely in the United States.
It took us approximately six months from the time we were retained to obtain the approval of our client's asylum application.
