Chinese asylum permanent resident grant

Published: Jan 11, 2006 By: Eric W. Schultz Source: My Source
Eric W. Schultz, Esq., successfully secured lawful permanent resident status for a client from the People’s Republic of China who based on Eric’s legal representation won political asylum before a U.S. Immigration Judge 6 years ago.  The client, who has 2 children, feared severe punitive treatment due to China’s “one child” family planning policies for having had more than one child without permission of the government.  The Judge agreed with Eric’s legal argument that reprisals by the Chinese government were likely, and that the treatment by governmental authorities constituted persecution.  The client’s wife was also granted asylum, and awaits approval of her “green card”.  A year after having been granted asylum, the client applied with Eric’s help for permanent resident status, and now he is a permanent resident who can remain in the U.S. and ultimately apply for naturalization as a US citizen if he chooses.
