Asylum Granted by Immigration JudgePublished: Sep 13, 2006 9:00 am By: Matthew L. Kolken Source: My Source
An Immigration Judge granted asylum to another one of our clients who is a citizen of Pakistan. Matthew L. Kolken successfully tried the case. The client was a member of an opposition party that was campaigning against the incumbent candidate. He and his father were taken from there home, and kept in a windowless cell for days. While in the cell he was placed in restrictive shackles that prevented him from sleeping, and he was forced to eat on the floor with his hands tied behind his back. The man was brutally beaten daily, and threatened with death if he didn’t stop his political activism. His family was able to secure his release from prison after paying a hefty bribe. Immigration Judge Montante granted asylum, which will enable Mr. Kolken’s client to apply for his Green Card in a year.
