"The current political debate over immigration has largely ignored the plight of the 1.8 million children who account for 15 percent of undocumented immigrants now living in the United States. These children have, for the most part, grown up in this country and received much of their education here. But without a means to legalize their status, they are seldom able to go on to college and cannot work legally. This wasted talent imposes economic and emotional costs on undocumented students and on U.S. society as a whole. (October 2007)"
